WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States has threatened to use the "scorched earth" policy after trying to target its embassy in Baghdad, a Saudi newspaper said on Thursday, believing that targeting the embassy prompted a re-mix of papers.

The newspaper quoted an official source as saying that "US Defense Secretary Mark Esper threatened to use the scorched-earth policy against those behind the targeting of its embassy in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ."

"Esber considered that the attack on the embassy prompted the re-mixing of papers and reconsider the way the United States deals with armed groups loyal to Iran," he said.

BAGHDAD -
The United States has threatened to use scorched-earth policy against those behind its Katyusha rocket attacks on its embassy in Baghdad.
Informed sources revealed, "These threats were conveyed by US Defense Secretary Mark Esper to Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi in a telephone conversation hours after the attack on the Washington Embassy."
The sources said that "Esber considered that the attack on the embassy prompted the re-mixing of papers and reconsider the way the United States deals with Iraqi factions. He warned that the silence of the Iraqi government without taking any measures will prompt Washington to use the scorched earth policy."
For its part, considered the Iraqi security references that "the targeting of the US embassy this time was different in terms of the quality of missiles used, which will increase the complexity and escalation."
"The reaction of the US-led international coalition to the use of the Katyusha and its pledge to respond swiftly to the vicinity of the embassy is a final warning to those who targeted the embassy," she said.
