Trump's surprise visit to Afghanistan
Trump, in a speech from the military base, that the United States is continuing negotiations with the "Taliban", which he said "wants to reach a deal" on the ceasefire.
"We are meeting with them and telling them that a ceasefire must be declared. They did not want to do it but now, in my opinion, they want to reach it. I think it will work," he said.
He also stressed that the United States is "gradually" reducing the number of troops deployed in Afghanistan.
This is the first visit by a US president to Afghanistan since 2014, when Trump's predecessor, Barack Obama, visited the country.
