Agriculture: The rate of desertification in Iraq decreased to only 30%

The Ministry of Agriculture announced, on Wednesday, that the rate of desertification has decreased to 30% of the proportion of arable land during the past two years due to the high percentage of cultivated land and abundance of water.
"The rate of desertification in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] increased during the period of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] occupation of the northern and western governorates to 40%," ministry spokesman Hamid al-Nayef told Al-Maalouma .
He added that "its rise is due to the financial crisis experienced by [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] during previous years, as well as the interruption of agricultural seasons and their absence in the occupied provinces by criminal gangs."
He explained that "the last two years witnessed an increase in the percentage of agricultural lands as a result of the abundance of water and the return of agricultural areas in the liberated governorates", noting that "the rate of desertification decreased to 30% of the total arable land in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ."
