The European Union supports the Iraqi elections with more than 5 million dollars

(Baghdad: Al Furat News) The European Union announced, today, Monday, its support for the Iraqi elections with more than 5 million dollars.

"The United Nations in Iraq welcomes the contribution of 5.51 million euros that the European Union made to a UN-led project to support capacity building in the Independent High Electoral Commission," a statement issued by the European Union said.
The statement added that "European funding will also contribute to supporting the deployment of United Nations electoral advisers at a time when the Electoral Commission is making the necessary preparations to organize the general elections in October 2021."
European Union Ambassador Martin Hoth said: “The high voter turnout will be essential in ensuring that there is a parliament and government that represents all Iraqis.
According to the statement, "the European Union's contribution to the aid project led by the United Nations comes in addition to funding from Germany, the Netherlands and France, bringing the total contributions from the European Union and its member states to 18.6 million US dollars."
The statement added: “On behalf of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on April 8th signed an agreement with the European Union to organize the financing and management of the project." And which enhances Iraq's ability to conduct free, fair and transparent elections in the country. "
