The Intelligence Agency of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced, on Monday, the implementation of a security operation to protect the "local product" from monopolists of food commodities and price manipulators, in Baghdad and a number of provinces.

This came, according to "directives from security references and recommendations to follow up on the weak souls of those who monopolize foodstuffs and manipulate the prices of commodities and goods in all parts of the country."

The operation resulted in "seizing tens of tons of fruits, vegetables and other foodstuffs, as well as 8 tons of drugs that are prohibited from import and are not subject to examination and quality control."

According to the statement, the operation also led to "the arrest of (262) accused of manipulating the prices of these materials and doubling their prices, during the month of April, as they were placed in detention to complete investigations and take legal measures against them.
