According to a Danish media affiliated with "People" (May 6, 2021), NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, "I thank Lieutenant General Olsen for his service, and I welcome Lieutenant General Lawsgaard as the new leader of our mission, and I wish him success during his term, and I look forward to work." With him, we are continuing our efforts to provide advice to the Iraqi security institutions and the Iraqi armed forces, at the request of the Iraqi government. "
The NATO mission in Iraq was launched at the NATO summit in Brussels in July 2018, at the request of the Iraqi government.
It is an advisory, training and non-combat capacity building mission that helps Iraq build more sustainable, transparent, comprehensive and effective security institutions and armed forces, so that they are more capable of combating terrorism, preventing the return of ISIS and achieving stability in the country.
