    The High Commission for Human Rights warned, on Monday, of a wave of assassinations targeting "opinion makers and the free speech," while it considered what happened in Karbala and Diwaniyah as a "setback."
    The Commission sent its warning to the government, on May 10, against the background of the assassination of the activist Karbalai Ihab Al-Wazni, and the shooting of the press reporter, Ahmed Hassan.

    The commission promised in the statement to it, "The continuation of the scenario of assassinations, assassinations, intimidation and restriction of opinion, with an escalating pace in the face of the inability of the government agencies and committees formed to detect the perpetrators and stop the bloodshed, a serious security setback and a flagrant challenge to the Iraqi security and intelligence establishment at the local and federal levels.
    The Commission called on the government to "take security and intelligence measures to protect those with free speech and opinion." It called on the relevant security and investigation agencies to "be seriously in their work, uncover the perpetrators and expose public opinion to the bodies behind this, in a way that enhances the citizen's confidence in their role and their abilities to ensure the right to life, safety and freedom of expression." Opinion and the promotion of democracy and peace for the Iraqi people. "
