{Local: Al Furat News} The Federal Integrity Commission announced, on Sunday, the results of its investigation of the high prices of foodstuffs and agricultural crops.
In a statement, the Euphrates News received a copy of it, the authority said, “In a report prepared by the agency’s prevention department, on the visits it had made to the ministries of agriculture and trade and the meeting with the officials in them, it stressed the importance of a government agency assuming responsibility for organizing the marketing of food products and agricultural crops. To achieve a state of balance to meet the market’s needs for local consumption and export the surplus, in coordination with the responsible authorities and directorates of agriculture in the governorates.

The report, copies of which were sent to the cabinet, the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, the offices of the Ministers of Agriculture, Trade and the Interior, and the head of the Border Ports Authority, pointed out to “the necessity of coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture and the regional government regarding adherence to the dates for preventing the entry of fruits and vegetables issued by the Ministry of Agriculture (the agricultural calendar), because of their Effects on protecting the local product, "pointing out" the failure of the region's ports to comply with the banning decisions issued by the ministry regarding the implementation of the (agricultural calendar), and the lack of tight control over its outlets, which leads to the leakage of goods into the market. "

He continued: "Monitoring the Ministry of Agriculture opening imports for some crops whose prices have risen, and not issuing a list of banning fruit crops, in addition to the Ministry of Trade taking a number of measures to address the high prices of foodstuffs, as well as the Commercial and Financial Control Department in the Ministry of Trade, in coordination. With the Organized Crime Directorate at the Ministry of Interior, conducting field trips to check prices in the local market, according to the directive of the Prime Minister.
The report urges “to monitor local markets, issue a daily bulletin with prices of agricultural products, follow up on the abundance and scarcity of the product, monitor crops entering the market, in addition to taking legal measures against some of the control affiliates who blackmail transporters of food and agricultural products, as this causes an increase in prices.”
