The Parliamentary Legal Committee confirmed, on Tuesday, that the highest priority in the current stage is the adoption of the Security and Retirement Law for workers, as it is related to the poor, unemployment and job opportunities.
Committee member Hussein Al-Aqabi said, "Providing job opportunities and reducing unemployment is one of the priorities of the modern state, noting that" there are many observations on the Security and Retirement Law for workers, including technical notes that will reach the competent committee in writing related to this law.
He explained that "this law is a breakthrough." Quality in light of the need for such important legislation that covers the breaches of previous legislation and meets the actual need for the development of the political system in the Iraqi state,” noting that “there are more than a million foreign workers in Iraq whose presence is illegal, and these swallow up the only job opportunities that must be provided to Iraqi youth.” .
Al-Uqabi pointed out that, "according to the statistics that were viewed on the Ministry of Labor website 7 months ago, the amount of guaranteed employment is only 350 thousand people, while the national workforce in Iraq may reach nearly 3 million workers, and thus less than 15 percent are sponsored and 85 percent are sponsored."
