Al-Rashed added: “We have received explicit requests from independent representatives of their desire to join (Progress), and most of them hail from the western (Sunni) regions,” noting that “the matter does not stop at that, there are Shiite and Kurdish MPs who do not belong to any current or party. Joining the Al-Halbousi coalition, and it will be officially announced after the Federal Court’s approval of the results.”
He explained that "all the political and popular Sunni parties believe that (Al-Halbousi) is the right man to head the parliament, as he has proven successful in this during his administration of the previous session, as well as the desire of the political parties (Shia and Kurds) to restore confidence again in the person of Al-Halbousi in the presidency of the new parliament, and this does not mean quotas as much as it is an electoral entitlement.”
Regarding the nomination of Sunni candidates from outside the parliament, Al-Rashed affirmed, “It is the right of any winning party in the elections to present its candidate for the position stipulated within the political custom of Sunnis, and therefore the issue of granting confidence by the representatives and political forces to the candidate closest or most suitable in implementing the program remains. The national government,” adding, “We, as progress, have no candidate for the presidency of Parliament except (Al-Halbousi).”
The winning candidate from the Progress Alliance hinted at the possibility of forming a united Sunni front to negotiate with the winning parties to form the government, saying, “Everything is possible, but matters remain subject to the approval of the Federal Court on the election results, in order to begin the separation of political negotiations to form the government according to national standards capable of implementing programs that advance country and meet the street’s desire for positive change.”
Regarding the Azm Alliance’s announcement of the joining of five political forces to the Khanjar alliance to become 34 seats, Al-Rashed stressed that “expanding the base of alliances is a healthy condition, and every list or political entity has the right to join or enter into an alliance with the parties it desires.”
Yesterday, Thursday, in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, a new political alliance was announced, headed by the leader of the "Azm" coalition, Khamis al-Khanjar, and it includes five political forces, namely: Azm Alliance, the Mass Party bloc, the Hasm Movement for Reform, deputies from the National Contract bloc, and the Arab Alliance in Kirkuk. .
