Shafaq News/ The Alliance of Progress, headed by Muhammad al-Halbousi, revealed on Monday, a move towards the Sadrist movement led by Muqtada al-Sadr, and the State of Law coalition headed by Nuri al-Maliki, to form the next government.
The Sadrist bloc topped the final election results, with 73 seats, while the Taqaddam alliance came in second with 37 seats, and the State of Law coalition came third with 33 seats.
A member of the coalition, Yahya al-Ithawi, told Shafak News Agency, "There is a movement for an alliance that has advanced over the political blocs, most notably the Sadrist movement and the rule of law, and there are understandings between the coalition and the aforementioned blocs to form the next government after approving the election results."
Al-Ithawi added, "The Alliance of Progress has many parliamentary seats and is the focus of attention of the political blocs, and it is considered the closest to the Sadrist movement and the rule of law," noting that "after the Federal Court's approval of the election results, everyone will go towards forming political alliances for the purpose of forming the next government."
