Wasit is preparing the designs of the administrative city to include government headquarters

Wasit / Jabbar Bechai
Wasit local government revealed that it has started preparing the model engineering designs for the project of the government complex in the governorate or the so-called administrative city, which will include the local government headquarters and the disengagement departments.
The Wasit government clarified that “in the event of the completion of the mentioned project, the old constructions such as the governorate office and the council building will be transferred to the health and education sectors, accompanied by the demolition and removal of the Al-Batool Hospital for Allegiance (formerly the Republican Hospital), which is located in the heart of the city and is one of the old and heritage buildings in it.”
The views of the Wasitites about the new project were conflicting, as there were those who described it as a “new green” that would be on the glue of the Green Zone in Baghdad, and access and entry to Wasit Green would be complicated. The project and they talked about its positives, the first of which is to relieve the bottlenecks from the city center.
A source in the engineering department of the governorate’s office stated that “the administrative city project is the establishment of a government complex that includes all the departments of disengagement in addition to the Wasit governorate office building and the governorate council building. North, or what is known as the control of the entrance to Baghdad.”
He added, "If the project is referred and completed completely, the current buildings will be emptied and transferred to the health and education sector, and the Al-Batoul Maternity Hospital will be removed and transferred to the old governorate office because the current governorate building is large and suitable as a maternity hospital due to the importance of its location," noting "the possibility of investing in the governorate council building." and transferring it to the health or education sector.
He explained that "the new government complex, or what some like to call it, the administrative city, will contribute to relieving the traffic jams in the city on the one hand, facilitating the review of citizens in one integrated place and not moving between side and side in order to sign, seal or complete a transaction."
He added, "The project will contribute to the population and commercial expansion and reduce the population and commercial pressure in the center of the city of Kut, which suffers from imbalances in expansion, since the city center is surrounded by the Tigris River from three sides, which means the impossibility of any urban or urban expansion in addition to the difficulty of moving between the two sides of the river due to the narrow streets And the few bridges, with a large population expansion and a density in the number of vehicles, and so on.”
He explained that "the governorate administration has concluded a contract with a special consulting office to prepare the final engineering designs for the project, after which the referral phase for implementation will begin, which will be either one stage or several stages depending on the financial allocations at the time," noting that "the project site will be on Kut Baghdad Road near the entrance to the city." The northern area, with an area and location that does not cause a traffic impetus to enter the city center through the current entrance.”
Meanwhile, civil activist Firas Kazem believes that “the project is of great importance in the proper urban planning of cities in light of the repercussions of horizontal expansion, the growth of slums, the loss of control over the old city and the distortion of its features.”
He added, "I have previously prepared a study in this regard, which requires the transfer of large government departments and institutions outside the city center of Kut, which is now suffering from large and influential congestion and jams, and today I am very happy when I heard that the local government has a plan in this regard." He pointed out that "the project also needs nearby schools, kindergartens and nurseries with a network of roads, and there must be housing complexes for employees, markets and other facilities that allow it to be linked to the city center and the rest of the residential neighborhoods in it."
Pointing out that "he put among his previous proposals for the project a monitoring system, electronic gates and small recreational areas in which the auditors of the departments can spend their waiting times, in addition to an internal garage and another that connects the complex with the city center."
However, he said, "The project may take a long time and large sums of money to complete, and therefore we fear that it is just a dream."
Citizen Sajjad Karim al-Atabi, from the city of Kut, said, “The new administrative city, or what is called the complex of government departments, may be a new green, but this time in Wasit, similar to the Green Zone in Baghdad, and reviews and entry to it are difficult and governed by security controls and approvals, which reflects negatively on citizens. “.
He added, "The idea is basically acceptable and appropriate, but the problem will be in the implementation and allocation, and if the financial allocations are available, the project needs a period of no less than 20 years to be accomplished, and other than that, it is just a fantasy."
He stated that the idea of demolishing and removing the Al-Batool Hospital or what was previously known as the Republican Hospital, which is located in the heart of the city, is a good and appropriate idea because it has become useless due to the old building and the presence of density surrounding it, wondering about how the site will be after removal and how to use it.
And Arf, “I find the process of removing the old hospital requires approvals, and there is a difficulty in that, as it is mainly due to the Department of Health and is occupied by multiple health departments such as the popular clinic, blood bank, medical committees, Thalassemia patients ward, outpatient clinic, emergency and other buildings.” He stated that "the best idea to exploit the governorate office building or the council building is to convert one of the two buildings into an important historical museum that collects all the history and heritage of Wasit, and part of it is dedicated to the martyrs."
