Yesterday, Tuesday, the governor of Dhi Qar, Muhammad Hadi al-Ghazi, approved the basic designs for the tourist city of Ur, making it the first integrated religious tourism city in the province. And the governor’s office stated, in a statement, that “the basic design was drawn up based on the outputs of the Diwani Order Committee No. 38 of 2021 and the problem is chaired by the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers and with the membership of representatives of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Construction and Housing, advisors to the Prime Minister and the Presidency of the Republic, as well as representatives from Dhi Qar Governorate.” He added, "The design includes five basic sectors, which are the religious sector, the educational sector, the service sector, the entertainment sector, and the residential sector, which extends in total over an area of 370 dunums." Al-Ghazi indicated, according to the statement, that "the aim of building the tourist city is to provide services for tourists coming to the ancient city of Ur, and its plan has been completed after fulfilling all requirements, surveys and studies, to be a new city with a religious tourism character."
