A project team to automate customs and border crossings held its second meeting this year on Monday.
A statement by the Border Ports Authority stated, "The project team for the automation of customs and border ports held its second meeting for the year 2022, headed by Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, and with the participation of all team members via the closed electronic circuit."
He added that "the activation of the customs and tax link audit program, and the electronic linkage of the exemptions program between the Border Ports Authority and the General Directorate of Industrial Development were discussed," noting that "the General Authority of Customs was assigned to submit a written paper on the latest developments of the Escuada contract concluded between the General Authority of Customs and UNCTAD." .
The statement continued, "The head of the commission presented the latest developments achieved by the team, which had a major role in facilitating trade and preventing counterfeiting operations through directing a joint committee from (ports, customs and tax) to set up a program for auditing customs and tax receipts, as the first stop of the process of setting up the program was in Al-Mandhiriya port, and the second one will be at Baghdad International Airport, and accordingly to the rest of the ports.”
In the same context, the team also worked on “implementing an electronic program to control and control the exempted materials in coordination with the General Directorate of Industrial Development.”
At the end of the meeting, all members of the team expressed “full readiness to provide the best and most sincere efforts to implement the directives of the Diwaniyah Order Committee 22 of the year 2020 concerned with e-governance.”
