Four weeks have passed since the closure of the Dhi Qar Oil Company by demonstrators holding university degrees who demanded job opportunities and the installation of contractors.
Since mid-February, hundreds of graduates have closed the Dhi Qar Oil Company and a number of oil facilities to demand appointment within the departments and institutions of the Ministry of Oil in the province.
An official source in the Dhi Qar Oil Company told (Al-Mada), that "the company is still closed by the graduates who are demanding appointment," noting that "the closure has entered its fourth week, and the affiliates are doing their jobs in alternative locations."
The source added, "The company's management and the Ministry of Oil have appointed several meals from the former sit-in, and there are currently no job grades to accommodate more." For his part, the graduates believe that the closure of Dhi Qar Oil Company came due to ignoring their demands.
For his part, the media official of the Dhi Qar Oil Company sit-in, Alaa Muhammad Al-Hadidi, told Al-Mada that "the graduates' sit-in in front of the Dhi Qar Oil Company has entered its seventh month, while the company's closure has entered its fourth week."
He continued, "The graduates, who are from various scientific, administrative and technical disciplines, were forced to close the doors of the company after what they saw as ignoring their legitimate demands." Al-Hadidi stressed that “the sit-in continues over a period of 24 hours, as the sit-in, whose number is estimated at a thousand, was divided into three morning, day and night meals for the purpose of perpetuating the sit-in in front of the company’s gate,” calling for “the inclusion of the 2022 budget job grades for graduates, whether in the oil company or any other.” Government department".
He stated, "Most of the protesters have graduated more than 7 years ago, and they are holders of technical institutes' degrees and graduates of management, economics and media, and there are also graduates with higher university degrees." Al-Hadidi continued, "The concerned authorities have not met the protesters and have not negotiated with them yet, and that is why they continue the sit-in and close the company by peaceful means until their demands are achieved." Demonstrators demanding appointments in Dhi Qar often resort to a sit-in in front of government departments and institutions, and sometimes close a number of roads, bridges, and vital institutions such as oil and production companies and decision-making departments in order to pressure and expedite the implementation of their demands.
