Al-Mashhadani to {Al-Sabah}: Controversial laws will be presented unanimously

in his first statement to a media outlet after assuming office, Speaker of the House of Representatives Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani confirmed to "Al-Sabah" that the controversial laws will be presented unanimously at least, away from political disputes. Al-Mashhadani, who was elected Speaker of Parliament last Thursday, said: "The controversial laws will not be presented, except after an in-depth study with all parliamentary blocs, and they will be presented unanimously at least, so that there are no disputes or obstruction of some laws." The Speaker of the House of Representatives added that "the method of presenting the controversial law to the session in the presence of disputes is incorrect and does not serve the Parliament." Al-Mashhadani pledged to "work to restore the prestige of Parliament, and to cooperate closely with the State Administration Coalition in a way that serves citizens, Iraq's sovereignty and societal unity, in addition to passing laws that contribute to achieving the accomplishments of the House of Representatives." He continued that "the Parliament affirms Iraq's role in supporting our people in Gaza and Lebanon in accordance with Iraq's established principles in supporting its nation and its just causes." Yesterday, Saturday, Al-Mashhadani received the President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, as the President of the Republic stressed the need to strengthen communication and coordination mechanisms between the Presidency of the Republic and the Presidency of the Council of Representatives and to work on presenting laws and legislation that serve the interests of citizens, especially in the security, political and economic aspects. For his part, Al-Mashhadani stressed the endeavor of the Presidency of the Council of Representatives to move forward in completing its tasks in a way that achieves the supreme interests of Iraq and its people. The Speaker of the Council of Representatives also met yesterday, Saturday, with the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Dr. Faiq Zidane.
The meeting witnessed discussions on cooperation between the judicial and legislative authorities in a way that achieves the public interest. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani congratulated Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani on his election as Speaker of Parliament, while stressing that the oversight role of Parliament complements
the work of the government.
