    Yesterday, Monday, the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, sent an invitation related to the initiative to revive Mesopotamia, to confront the current drought crisis and the low levels of the Tigris and Euphrates.
    The Presidency of the Republic stated in a statement that "Saleh received the Minister of Water Resources, Mahdi Rashid," noting that "the developments in the water situation in the country and the decrease in the levels of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers were discussed."
    Saleh pointed out that "the water file should be a top priority as one of the pillars of national security," calling for "the necessity of communicating with neighboring countries to organize water relations on the principles of good neighborliness and taking into account the common interests of all, and not to harm Iraq."
    The President of the Republic also pointed to the need to “protect water bodies, maintain dams, and develop strategic plans in which all state institutions participate in coordination with international expertise in the field of confronting drought, desertification and climate change crises, which have become a global crisis affecting countries, especially in the Middle East,” stressing the importance of That “confronting climate change is a national priority in Iraq and the initiation of the Mesopotamian recovery initiative.”
    For his part, Minister Mahdi Rashid explained the water situation in the country, and the plans in place to meet the challenges facing the water file in the country, especially with the decline of rainwater for the current season and the drought crisis, in addition to the ongoing dialogues with neighboring countries regarding Iraq's water share. In another context, the President of the Republic called for the need to maintain pressure on terrorism and to end any loophole in front of it. A second statement by the Presidency of the Republic stated that Saleh received Defense Minister Juma Inad, and they discussed the security situation in the country and its developments, and the continuous efforts of the armed forces in pursuing the remnants of terrorism.
    The President of the Republic was briefed on the progress of the ongoing military operations on various axes in combating terrorist cells that are trying to destabilize security and stability in a number of cities and regions.
    Saleh stressed, "the necessity of vigilance and caution, and not to allow any gap for terrorism to catch its breath and to threaten the security and stability of citizens," praising the "recent efforts of the security forces in dismantling terrorist cells and arresting a number of prominent terrorists."
    Saleh stressed the need to "continue pressure on ISIS, and provide all support to our security forces to carry out their tasks."
    In addition, Saleh discussed, with Venezuelan Ambassador Arturo Anibal Ramirez, the bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to strengthen them in various fields in a way that achieves the mutual interests of the two peoples, and developments on the regional and international arena of common interest.
    Ramirez reiterated his country's commitment to supporting the security and stability of Iraq and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
