Iraq is the second largest producer of refining capacities

Iraq, the second largest producer in OPEC, witnessed a remarkable jump in refining capacity additions, to be the second largest producer of refining capacities after Saudi Arabia.
According to the latest OPEC annual statistical bulletin, the OPEC group added 400,000 barrels per day of refining capacity in the year 2021, raising its total crude refining capacity of the organization to 3.327 million barrels per day.
She added that most of the increase came from Saudi Arabia and Iraq, where Iraq's refining capacity rose by 34.7% to 1.116 million barrels per day in 2021 from 828,000 barrels per day in 2020, making Iraq the second largest producer of refining capacities in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
Iraq’s production increase is largely due to improvements in the Baiji and Basra refineries, where the Baiji refinery, which was damaged during its takeover by ISIS, added 87,000 barrels per day, bringing its capacity to 140,000 barrels per day, and the Basra refinery added 70,000 barrels in Today, its capacity will rise to 350 thousand barrels per day.
Saudi Arabia ranked first in refining capacities in 2021, rising by 13.7% in 2021, to reach 2.548 million barrels per day from 2.177 million barrels per day in 2020.
