Today, Monday, the Government Media Cell confirmed that the Ministry of Water Resources has implemented a plan to reduce the effects of water scarcity in the marshes of the southern governorates, while noting that the Euphrates River Water Improvement Project reduced salt by 50%.
The Director-General of the Marsh Recovery Center, Hussein Ali Al-Kinani, said that "the lack of water revenues from the source countries and the high temperatures for the last three years have affected the marshes and the areas of flooding significantly, which called on the ministry to take urgent measures, including launching plans to reduce the effects of water scarcity and confront drought and limitation." from the impact of its shortage of supplies in the marshlands.
He added that "the ministry's plan was for its staff in the Marsh Recovery Center and the maintenance and irrigation departments to expand and deepen the nutrients of the marshes in Dhi Qar Governorate to preserve good quantities of water through available releases, which are received according to the operational program prepared by the National Center for Water Resources Management, which was approved During the ministry's summer plan meeting.
He continued, "The plan included the deepening and expansion of the Hammar Marsh's feeders on the right side of the Euphrates River and the central marshes' feeders from the left Euphrates River in Dhi Qar Governorate," noting that "dredging works and raising mud deposits are still continuing, especially after the expansion and deepening works that the center started. It was implemented at the beginning of this year, with a distance of 78 km of pathways and streams feeding the marshes.
Al-Kinani stressed, "The project to improve the water of the Euphrates River, which was adopted by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, has reached important stages, which contributed to reducing the percentage of dissolved salts in the Euphrates River in Dhi Qar Governorate by half, bringing the current ratio to (1850) parts per million at the beginning of this month, after that It was 3545 parts per million at the beginning of the sixth month of this year.”
