Sullivan promises sanctions on Iran: The bombing of Kurdistan is an assault on sovereignty and an export of internal problems
"We stand with the leaders in the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, as these attacks are an assault on the sovereignty of Iraq and its people," Sullivan said in a statement.
"Iranian leaders continue to show blatant disregard not only for the lives of their own people, but also for their neighbors and the basic principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity enshrined in the UN Charter," he added.
He said, “Iran cannot deflect blame from its internal problems and the legitimate grievances of its population, by carrying out attacks outside its borders, its blatant use of missiles and drones against its neighbors, as well as providing Russia with drones for its aggressive war in Ukraine and proxies across the Middle East region.” They should be condemned globally."
He stressed that the United States will continue to pursue sanctions and other means to curb Iran's destabilizing activities in the Middle East region.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards said earlier today, Wednesday, that it had fired missiles and drones at targets of opposition militants in the Kurdistan Region, where an official said that nine people were killed.
In recent days, Iranian strikes have targeted border posts in Iraqi Kurdistan, north of Erbil, more than once, without causing noticeable damage.
These strikes come in the context of tension in Iran. Where there have been daily night demonstrations since the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, in mid-September, after she was arrested by the morality police in Tehran.
