The Iraqi Parliament is moving to discuss "Kuwaiti abuses". Documents
Shafaq News/ Representative Amer Abdul-Jabbar Ismail announced on Tuesday that he had collected parliamentary signatures to discuss "Kuwaiti's violations" of Iraq's maritime rights.
And signed the request submitted by Ismail to the presidency of the House of Representatives 77 deputies.
Earlier, the representative of Basra Governorate, Amer Abdul-Jabbar, said that Kuwait had drilled oil wells near the port of Basra within the regional borders of Iraq, and explained that he had written a report to the ministries of oil and foreign affairs since July 2022 regarding "Kuwaiti overruns within Iraq's territorial waters."
Abdul Jabbar, a former Iraqi Minister of Transport, said that "a Kuwaiti offshore oil platform was seen, 5 nautical miles from Khor Al-Khafga, and 18 nautical miles from the Basra oil port, and the platform's location was determined in latitude and longitude." And the Iraqi government signed, with its Kuwaiti counterpart in 2012, Khor Abdullah agreement, with the aim of "cooperating in regulating maritime navigation and preserving the marine environment in the shipping lane in the Khor Abdullah area."
In 2019, Kuwait escalated its dispute with Iraq and defended its sovereign right to build a marine platform in its territorial waters, in response to Iraq's protest to the Security Council against the Kuwaiti decision and Baghdad's belief that the platform will affect the demarcation of the maritime border between the two countries.
Specialists say that the riparian countries such as Kuwait and before that, Iran and Saudi Arabia have deposited the map of the regional sea at the United Nations without any negotiations with Iraq, while the latter has not yet deposited the map like these countries to become officially recognized.
