Allawi to Blasschaert: A committee of "wise men" must be formed to resolve the outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil
Shafaq News/ The leader of the National Coalition, Dr. Iyad Allawi, discussed on Tuesday, with Jeanine Plasschaert, representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, the attacks on the Kurdistan Region, calling for the formation of a committee of "wise men" to resolve the differences between Baghdad and Erbil.
A statement by Allawi's media office, reported to Shafaq News agency, stated; "During the meeting, a number of files were discussed on the local scene, foremost of which were the early elections, as Dr. Allawi stressed the need to create the appropriate atmosphere from now on for the purpose of holding fair elections on the date set by the government of Mr. Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani," stressing that "this is taking place through Changing the laws of parties and elections, as well as changing the electoral commission.
He added that the meeting discussed "the differences between the center and the region, where Dr. Allawi called for resolving these differences through the formation of a committee of wise men," referring to "the recent discussions with Mr. Masoud Barzani in this regard, especially since Mr. Masoud Barzani has an important pivotal role in Iraq."
The statement indicated that "the meeting also discussed the repeated attacks on the regions of the Kurdistan region of Iraq, where Dr. Allawi stressed the need to put an end to these attacks and blatant interferences that affect the sovereignty of Iraq, calling for taking real and serious measures and positions regarding these actions."
