    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

Today, Wednesday, the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Special Forces, Yahya Rasool, announced that the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, directed the relevant security services to follow up the reports and information received regarding the opening of commercial stores in the capital, Baghdad, bearing the names of international brands without legal licenses.

Rasool said in a statement, "The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, directed the relevant security services in the Ministry of Interior to follow up the reports and information received, according to which commercial stores were opened in the capital, Baghdad, bearing the names of international brands without legal licenses."
He added, "In light of the directives, the competent authorities moved and verified the existence of a number of shops and economic activities operating under fake trademarks, and legal measures were taken in this regard."
And he continued, “The concerned government agencies call upon all local investors to apply commercial and intellectual property rights and trademark rights to the necessity of obtaining the original approvals from the owners of international marks and brands, and stress that infringement of these rights is a violation of the law, and a crime that harms the business environment and foreign investments, as well.” It harms Iraq's reputation and its ability to attract major companies and institutions with internationally registered brands and trademarks.”
Earlier, international reports challenged the existence of shops in Iraq that “pirate” and falsify international brands, including the Starbucks brand.
