On Friday, the Ministry of Agriculture revealed a plan to grow 5 million tons of wheat using modern irrigation techniques.
The Undersecretary of the Minister of Agriculture, Mahdi al-Jubouri, said, "The ministry is seeking to reach the cultivation of 5 million tons of wheat with minimal spaces through seeds and high yields that tolerate drought and by using modern irrigation techniques."
He added, "The focus will be on modern irrigation techniques and irrigated areas, as this will save a large part of the water."
He pointed out that "Iraq needs 150,000 dunums of vegetable crops," stressing that "if this is achieved, Iraq will return to its position in the global markets to export its products."
