    The Director General of the General Company for Grain Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Haider Al-Karaawi, confirmed today, Tuesday, July 9, 2024, that Iraq is going through the best wheat marketing season in 2024 in its history.
    Al-Karawi told Baghdad Today, "Regarding the wheat marketing season for the year 2024, it is the first season in the history of Iraq, as the quantities received by the General Company for Grain Trade reached more than 5 million and 945 thousand tons until the fifth of this July," stressing that "the receipt is still ongoing and there are quantities in some governorates, especially the three governorates of the Kurdistan Region, Kirkuk and Nineveh."
    He explained that "during the next five days, the receipt of Kirkuk and Nineveh governorates will be closed, and the three governorates of the region will continue to receive for a period of approximately twenty days," noting that "this great effort was due to the government support and personal follow-up by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and the directive to send the financial amounts to the farmers day by day, and there are no problems worth mentioning in the wheat marketing season for the year 2024."
    Al-Karawi added, "According to expectations, the quantities that will be received during the wheat marketing season for the year 2024 will reach approximately six and a half million tons, and this quantity will meet Iraq's needs for approximately a year in addition to three months of strategic storage, and there is a possibility of remaining approximately one and a half million tons in addition to the amount of need as well as the strategic storage, and this million and a half million the ministry will study the possibility of exporting to neighboring countries and the rest of the world, and this matter will be after the approval of the Council of Ministers."
