    On Friday, the Ministry of Water Resources revealed a large water project in Basra, stressing that the project will contribute to dissolving part of the saline shaft in the Shatt al-Arab.

    The assistant director of the General Authority for the Maintenance and Operation of the Euphrates Basin in the ministry, Muhannad Abdel-Hadi, said in a statement to the official agency, affiliated with "NAS", (February 17, 2023), that "the ministry is in the process of preparing a (water reservoir) project that will mainly serve the province," pointing out that "This project is part of the government program for this year, and the ministry is in the process of preparing designs for it."  
      
    Abdul-Hadi added, "If the project is implemented and initiated, it will solve a large part of the saline spring that the Shatt al-Arab suffers from, in addition to the quantities of drinking water that Basra governorate suffers from," noting that "this water reservoir is trying to exploit the incoming water, In the winter and summer season, he will secure the largest amount of sweet water to the province.  
      
    With regard to the Unified Canal Project, Abdul-Hadi explained, "This project is one of the irrigation projects for drinking water, and it extends from Ramadi Governorate, passing through the division system, towards Baghdad and down to Wasit Governorate," stressing that "this project will provide drinking and irrigation water, and will serve agricultural lands." the irrigation process, and reduces waste, in addition to reducing excesses.  
      
    He continued, "This canal is lined with a distance of 8 km out of 63 km, and the canal project has been included within the concrete quilt plan, and the designs are under completion during this period, to take into account the difference in the lining mechanism from manual lining to concrete quilt," noting that "after the completion of The designs for this project will be started during this year, by lining a kilometer and a half during this year, and continuing with it within the program if financial allocations are available.
