The Japanese embassy in Baghdad counted, on Thursday, the value of loans with which its country has supported Iraq's projects since 2003, while indicating work on one of its largest projects in Iraq.
"Iraq and Japan have enjoyed very good trade relations since the 1970s," said Chargé d'Affairs of the Japanese Embassy, Masamoto Kenichi, to the official news agency.
He added, "After 2003, economic relations developed between the two countries, and Japan implemented many projects, supported the government, and provided many loans worth $9 billion," indicating, "Our interest and focus is on several sectors, the most important of which are electricity, oil, and water."
He stressed that "the development of the Basra refinery is the largest project undertaken by Japan in Iraq," pointing out: "We, in cooperation with the Iraqi government, will implement other future projects."
He stated, "Japanese companies are active in Iraq, and some of them operate under separate Japanese assistance."
