{Politics: Al Furat News} The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, met today, Friday, with the Secretary-General of the International Criminal Police Organization, Interpol, Jurgen Stock, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
Al-Sudani stressed during the meeting, according to a statement from his office, which "Euphrates News" received a copy of, that "the theft of public money is one of the most important challenges facing Iraq, and that combating corruption is among the priorities of the government program."
And he indicated, "The government's procedures require cooperation from the organization, especially in the matter of dealing with requests submitted in connection with financial crimes."
As Al-Sudani explained, "Theft of public money and the use of the global financial system to smuggle and launder money is an international crime that crosses borders, and it has harmed Iraq, in addition to being one of the most important enablers of terrorism," stressing that "retrieving those wanted for these crimes is one of the most important steps to deter this crime." .
The Prime Minister referred to "the government's measures in securing the Iraqi borders and fully connecting them to Interpol services, and called on the International Organization of Interpol to provide support in the field of training and capacity building for the cadres working at the headquarters and the new Interpol offices at the border crossings, as well as cooperation in the field of exchanging security information." With the member countries of the international organization, and in the field of supporting financial crime investigations related to money laundering and terrorist financing, and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
He expressed "Iraq's desire to make the most of the fields provided by Interpol, and to contribute to the dissemination of all blue and green notices for perpetrators of terrorism crimes, especially the information that is shared in the Interpol databases within the Foreign Terrorist Fighters project."
Al-Sudani extended an invitation to the Secretary-General to visit Iraq as soon as possible.
For his part, the Secretary-General of Interpol expressed the organization's readiness to cooperate with Iraq in the field of urging countries to recover stolen funds, wanted persons and those convicted of corruption cases, and indicated that Interpol established a specialized department a year ago, and a special bulletin will be issued on financial crimes committed in Iraq.
