Today, Wednesday, UNESCO criticized the political agenda in the draft law on "freedom of expression" that is being discussed by the Iraqi parliament.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization "UNESCO" said, according to the official of the Department of Freedom of Expression, Information and Communication in Iraq, Diaa Sobhi, in an interview with Arab news websites and its follow-up (Baghdad Today), that "the law was a great disappointment to international organizations, and to UNESCO in particular." , as the party concerned with the file of freedom of expression and everything related to it,” indicating that “there is a political will to proceed with the legislation of this law,” and despite the existence of differences and conflicts within the House of Representatives and political blocs, “the different may agree on an issue that restricts their opponents in The street and the arena, and they are the audience at the present time and the media and journalist community.
Sobhi added, "We are in front of a draft law that completely distanced itself from freedom of expression, because it took the reins of security penalties, judicial prosecutions, and restrictions on freedoms. A law cannot be called freedom of expression while it restricts it."
