An interview with the Minister of Resources, Aoun Dhiab, on Thursday, included disturbing messages regarding the water file in Iraq, stressing that Mesopotamia is no longer what it was before.

Dhiab said in an interview conducted with him by colleague Hisham Ali, followed by “NAS” (March 9, 2023),  that “there are limitations outside our control, as Iraq is considered an estuary country and all of our waters come from Turkey,” noting that “the Tigris and Euphrates are no longer two rivers as they were before.” They turned into channels controlled by the dam gates in Turkey.

And he continued, "Yes, we have become the country of the two canals, and the drought is still present, and this year it witnessed a severe drought, especially since the rain fell in the center and the south, while the share of the north was not abundant."

He pointed out that "Iraq's dams are all in the north, and there did not fall enough rain, so the water storage in the dams has not changed since I took over the ministry until now."
