The Basra Oil Company launched an integrated project to invest the burned part of the associated gas in the fields of Basra, about a year and a half after contracting with the French giant Total.
Basra Oil Director Bassem Abdul Karim stated that "discussions with the French company Total Energy have reached a draft agreement to invest 600 million cubic meters of associated gas in the Artawi fields, west of Qurna 2, as well as the Al-Sabbah, Al-Luhais, Al-Toba fields north of Basra, in addition to the Al-Sabbah field." Majnoon Giant east of Basra and in two stages, each stage includes 300 Mqmq.
Abdel-Karim explained to “Al-Sabah” that the ministry “contracted with the French “Total Energy” on May 9, 2021, at a value of $27 billion, to implement four projects in the field of gas and electric power. The second contract includes a project to establish an Artawi gas complex with a capacity of 600 million cubic feet. Standard (Maqmq) for the purpose of investing in gas burnt from oil fields, producing an amount of condensate estimated at 12,000 barrels per day, and producing an amount of LPG liquefied gas estimated at 3,000 tons per day for the local market.” Basra through international companies to enter into a competition to invest the gas burned in the field in quantities of up to 100-150 million standard cubic feet (mqmq) per day.
He called for "developing the production of the Sinbad oil field in Basra Governorate with the Chinese (UAG) company, as part of the fifth licensing round on February 21," noting that "this requires an increase in the quantities of crude oil and associated gas production, according to exploratory data of the Iraqi Drilling Company in In 2013, the field contained commercial quantities of crude oil and natural gas in the Yamama layer, which amounted to more than six thousand barrels of oil per day, in addition to 16-17 million “feeders” of natural gas.
It is noteworthy that Iraq established the Basra Gas Company with Shell and Mitsubishi to invest gas from the fields (Zubayr, Rumaila and West Qurna 1) with plans targeting 2,000 million standard cubic meters per day and has now reached the ability to invest 50% of this amount, which is equal to about 1,000 million cubic feet per day.
