Baghdad Airport Director Hussein Ali announced, on Tuesday, the opening of a runway inside Baghdad International Airport, pointing out that there is a plan to build a new airport in the capital.
Ali said in a statement to "Al-Iqtisad News" that "the runway is no less important than aviation, and there is no airport without a runway, and the runway that was opened today has been stopped for more than six years."
He added, "With the support of the Association of Private Banks, the runway was returned to work within a period of about four months," noting that "the runway witnessed the landing of more than ten planes on the opening day."
He pointed out that "the airport management is currently in discussion with the Financial Action Corporation to elect a new land. We have provided them with all the maps they need to build a new airport," stressing the existence of "an efficient plan to address services throughout the terminals of Baghdad International Airport."
