On Thursday, Planning Minister Muhammad Tamim held the former government and parliament responsible for inflation in the employee salary bill.
Tamim said at the seventh Sulaymaniyah Forum, followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", that he was "assigned to prepare the budget for 2023, 2034 and 2025, and we had limited options and great challenges, and we started with the issue of preparing the budget by going towards determining what are the priorities according to the government program realistically."
He added, "When we went to the spending, we found that the spending had greatly inflated, with limited resources, and this prompted us to reconsider the spending chapters and the need to define these chapters in a manner consistent with the government's directives." Noting that "the deficit amount is about 60 trillion dinars, and part of this A deficit is a paper deficit.”
And that "21 trillion Iraqi dinars have been added to this budget for salaries, and this is not a governmental decision, but rather the decision of the first parliament and the two previous governments, in addition to the emergency support law to install contractors."
And he stressed that "this government did not take a single decision to appoint one person, even if he was in the offices of ministers and the new government."
He explained that "the operational amounts of the budget were the result of the decisions of previous governments and the previous parliament."
