Today, Saturday, the Finance Committee in the House of Representatives confirmed that it has not received a copy of the budget yet, despite the passage of 17 days since its arrival in Parliament.
A member of the committee, Mudar Al-Karawi, said in an interview with (Baghdad Today), that "the committee did not officially receive the 2023 budget, in order to proceed with the procedures for extensive discussions of its items with ministers and heads of government agencies and institutions."
Al-Karawi added, "The budget is complex in various areas, and there are large question marks, the most prominent of which is the large financial deficit ratios, in addition to the governorates' entitlements from the regional development budget, which constitute a backbone for construction and construction projects and the provision of services."
He continued, "We hope that the budget will reach the Finance Committee as soon as possible in order to proceed with the discussion procedures."
On the 13th of last March, the Council of Ministers approved the draft law for the country’s general budget for the fiscal years 2023, 2024, and 2025, and referred it to Parliament for review and opinion before its approval. However, the draft law is still withheld in the inclusion of the Presidency of Parliament, despite the passage of more than 17 days since it was received. .
