    Today, Friday, an informed source revealed that nearly 50 companies will incur heavy losses following the decision of the Turkish authorities to suspend flights to Sulaymaniyah Airport in the Kurdistan region.
    The source explained, in an interview with (Baghdad Today), that: "There are about 40 to 50 companies that will suffer losses from the Turkish decision to suspend flights to Sulaymaniyah Airport," pointing out, "These companies provide air transport services for travelers as well as commercial services such as transporting goods and services." Medical and other losses will be in the millions of dollars daily.
    He stressed, "The services of these companies will be transferred automatically to Erbil Airport by 75 percent, and the remaining percentage will be transferred to the capital, Baghdad."
    The source asked, "If there is really activity for the Workers' Party in Turkey and activity in all of Iraq and Kurdistan in general, why were the Turkish interests in Sulaymaniyah not targeted or damaged while it has a representative and consulate in Sulaymaniyah and was never targeted?"
    And he indicated, "Turkey's losses in Dohuk and Erbil, by targeting the Labor Party, are much more than the losses in Sulaymaniyah, but why did Ankara not issue a decision to suspend in Erbil, for example?"
    The source pointed out, "Turkey's recent decision to suspend flights to Sulaymaniyah is related to the political crises of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with the approaching elections, and also because of the ruling party in Sulaymaniyah's support for the Kurdish parties in Turkey as the elections approach."
    Last Wednesday, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the closure of its airspace to aircraft coming to and from the Iraqi city of Sulaymaniyah, amid fears of an escalation of "terrorist activity" in the region.
    Foreign Ministry spokesman Tanju Bilgic said in a statement that the lockdown came into effect on April 3 and is expected to remain in place until July 3 and then be reconsidered after closely following and evaluating developments.
    Bilgic explained that the reason for taking the decision is the increase in the activities of the "BKK" terrorist organization and its infiltration into the airport, which poses a threat to the safety of flights.
