Iraq ranks among the largest holders of US Treasury bonds

The US Treasury Department announced that Iraq dropped one rank among the largest foreign holders of US Treasury bonds. The Treasury said in the latest table: “Iraq decreased one place after Iraq reduced its holdings of bonds during the month of February to reach the 30th rank among the countries with the largest possession.” For the 38 US treasury bonds listed in the table for countries with possessions of more than 32 billion dollars. And she added, “Iraq’s possession of these bonds amounted to 40.7 billion dollars for the month of February, a decrease of 1.21% from last January, as Iraq’s possession of bonds reached $ 41.2 billion, an increase of 68.88% compared to February 2022. The treasury indicated that:Iraq was the third largest Arab country after Saudi Arabia and the UAE, while Al-Baban came on top of the countries with the largest possession of these bonds with 1 trillion and 81 billion dollars, followed by China second with 898 billion dollars, the United Kingdom third with 643 billion dollars, Belgium fourth with 331 billion dollars and Luxembourg fifth with 327 billion dollars,” indicating that “the total bonds of the countries of the world for the month of February decreased by 59 billion dollars from last January, to reach 7 trillion and 343 billion dollars.”
