Today, the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Rashid, discussed with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine-Plasschaert, the political situation and the efforts made regarding the issue of displaced people and climate changes.
The Presidency of the Republic stated in a statement received by Al-Hayat News, “The President of the Republic received, at Baghdad Palace, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert.
He added that, during the meeting, the overall political situation in Iraq, the role of the United Nations, and the efforts made in the file of displaced persons, as well as climate changes, were discussed, according to the statement.
The statement indicated, “Discussing the work of the United Nations and its associated organizations in supporting Iraq and revitalizing its role, especially in the projects adopted by the United Nations and the humanitarian files represented in resolving the issue of the displaced and facilitating their return to their areas of residence.”
For her part, Plasschaert stressed, “The representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations is keen to do everything possible to help the Iraqis in various fields.”
