    Baghdad today - Nineveh
Today, Saturday (October 28, 2023), the former Yazidi MP, Hussein Nermo, accused the Iraqi government of negligence towards the Sinjar district, west of Nineveh Governorate.
Nermo told "Baghdad Today", "The security conditions in Sinjar are stable, the security situation is stable, there is a deployment of the army, the federal police, and the local police, and accidents and crimes have decreased significantly."
He added, "Sinjar suffers from a lack of government interest regarding financial allocations, compensation for those affected, and implementation of projects that help restore stability and end displacement quickly."
After the third year has passed since the agreement to normalize the situation in the city of Sinjar, located 115 kilometers west of Mosul, the center of Nineveh Governorate, which was signed in October 2020 between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, it continues without its full implementation, and its most important provisions include the removal of Kurdistan Workers’ Party militants. And returning the city's people, including Iraqi Yazidis, Arabs, Christians, and Kurds, to it.
Zaidan Khalaf, advisor to the Prime Minister for Human Rights, confirmed in a press statement on the 10th of this month, “The two governments are moving forward to normalize the situation in Sinjar,” stressing that “there is a return of the displaced to Sinjar and the areas of the Nineveh Plain.”
It is noteworthy that on October 9, 2020, Baghdad and Erbil had reached an agreement to normalize the situation in Sinjar, which stipulates joint management of the judiciary in administrative, security, and service aspects. However, this agreement has not actually entered into force until now for political reasons, according to officials in the Kurdistan region. .
