    Strike over salaries
For months, Sulaymaniyah Governorate and other cities in the region have been witnessing a widespread strike that has reached the point of disrupting the current academic year, due to the delay in disbursing salaries to employees and educational staff.
At a time when a Kurdish minister in the federal government in Baghdad reassured Kurdish employees about sending their salaries in accordance with a previous agreement with Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, the Kurdistan Regional Government decided to send a delegation to Baghdad in order to settle the amount of the cash loan that it had agreed with the federal government to send to pay salaries. employees.
A statement by the regional government spokesman, Peshwa Hawrami, said on (October 29, 2023), that “an amount of 700 billion dinars was scheduled to be sent for the salaries of employees in the Kurdistan region last week,” adding that “contrary to all the statements and conversations during the meetings and the agreement to send the amount, the amount was delayed.” Send amount.

The statement explained, "A delegation from the region will go to Baghdad this week, and we want to issue a final and radical decision in this regard."
Hawrami added, "In the past period, the regional government has demonstrated its clear intentions to agree and reach a result with the federal government, and there is nothing left for the regional government to do," noting that "if things continue like this, the regional government will not be able to remain silent regarding the violation of the constitutional rights of the people." Kurdistan Region.
For his part, the Minister of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities, Benkin Rekani, announced that the federal government will soon send an amount of 700 billion dinars as part of the second agreed-upon installment to finance the salaries of employees and workers in the public sector in the Kurdistan region for the last three months of 2023.
Rikani, a leader in the Kurdistan Democratic Party, said during a press conference held inside the ministry building in the capital, Baghdad: “I spoke with Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, and with Finance Minister Taif Sami, and we received promises from them that if the Kurdistan region’s delegation comes to Baghdad, it will be possible the day after tomorrow to resolve the matter.” The problem lies in the accounting system,” stressing that “an amount of 700 billion dinars will be sent to the region.”
Rekani added, "The atmosphere is positive in Parliament and the federal government, and it helps solve the problem, which is technical and there is nothing left to address."
