The US Ambassador to Baghdad, Alina Romanowski, stressed on Thursday the importance of having an independent judiciary that follows legal procedures and bases its decisions on the Iraqi Constitution.[/size]

[size=45]In addition, a statement issued by the Iraqi judiciary stated that Zidane received Romanowski this evening, and discussed with her “cooperation between the two countries in legal files of common interest.”[/size]
[size=45]After that, the American ambassador announced her meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, to “learn about the latest developments and the security situation in Iraq,” according to a blog post on the X platform.[/size]
[size=45]After that, Al-Halbousi discussed, with the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq, Ali Reza Konai, developments in the political situation in the country, and the rationale for the Federal Court’s decision.[/size]
[size=45]Earlier today, Al-Halbousi received the Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, and discussed with him the developments in the political situation, the rationale for the Federal Supreme Court’s decision and the extent of its consistency with the constitutional articles.[/size]
[size=45]The day before yesterday, Tuesday, the Federal Supreme Court, the highest judicial authority in Iraq, decided to terminate Al-Halbousi’s membership, based on a “forgery” lawsuit filed by Representative Laith Al-Dulaimi.[/size]
[size=45]The President of the Federal Court, Jassem Muhammad Abboud, confirmed that the decision to terminate Al-Halbousi’s membership is binding on all authorities, and is not subject to legal appeal.[/size]
