A statement from Al-Sudani’s office, received by Al-Sumaria News, stated, “The latter received this evening the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Ahmed Khan, and his accompanying delegation. They discussed cooperation mechanisms between the Iraqi government and the International Criminal Court to hold accountable members of ISIS terrorist gangs who committed crimes in Iraq, which will help bring justice to the thousands of victims who died at the hands of terrorism.”

The Prime Minister stressed "the need to support Iraq in prosecuting and holding accountable the terrorist elements that caused the loss of Iraqi lives and committed brutal massacres against civilians, indicating that Iraq fought terrorism on behalf of the world, was able to defeat it, and made many sacrifices for that."

Al-Sudani called on the International Criminal Court to "assist and support Iraq in identifying supporters of terrorism in Iraq, whether they are states or institutions, in order to prosecute them in the Iraqi courts."

For his part, Khan stressed "the International Criminal Court's keenness to prosecute and hold accountable those belonging to terrorist organizations in Iraq, and to provide justice to the victims, noting that the Iraqis defeated the terrorist ISIS through their unity and cohesion, and their determination to cleanse their land."
