Baghdad: Shaima Rashid
Representatives called for holding an extraordinary session to choose a speaker of Parliament before the end of the legislative recess and not leaving the position vacant due to the importance of its oversight and legislative role, expressing their hope that the new presidency will be able to address previous problems and approve important laws.
Member of the House of Representatives, Yasser Al-Husseini, said: It is necessary to move forward to open the door for nominations and choose a speaker for the House of Representatives, even though he has not requested to hold extraordinary sessions yet, noting that it is possible that we will go to an extraordinary session to choose a new president before the end of the legislative recess.
He pointed out that there is no problem in choosing a new president after the end of the legislative recess, since there are no sessions, but on normal days, the constitution requires us to hold sessions and elect a speaker of Parliament, indicating that during the recess, fifty representatives should submit a call for an extraordinary session, and the first paragraph of it should be to elect the president.
For his part, Member of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Salal Al-Badri, explained that Parliament faces great responsibilities to address the problems that occurred during the previous presidency, especially since there are some broken laws and the almost absence of a supervisory role.
He hoped that the next legislative term and the new presidency would witness a real activation of the oversight role, stressing that so far there is no consensus on the personality of the new Speaker of Parliament.
