      12-05-2023An informed political source revealed, on Tuesday, that the coordination framework, which brings together the Shiite political forces, set a time limit for selecting the Speaker of the House of Representatives as a replacement for the outgoing member, Muhammad al-Halbousi, indicating that the framework selected only three candidates to assume the position.The source said, “The coordinating framework forces decided that the date of the Parliament session to choose the new Speaker of the House of Representatives would not be later than next Saturday, and the nominated names were shortened to only three, namely (Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, Shaalan Al-Karim, and Salem Al-Issawi).”The source pointed out that “there is no unified agreement among the framework forces to support a specific candidate from these names, as each party has its own opinion regarding these nominated figures.”Yesterday evening, Monday, the coordination framework held a meeting to discuss the names nominated for the presidency of the Iraqi parliament by the Sunni political forces.This was told by an informed source, who added that the leaders of the coordination framework will discuss the names of candidates for the presidency of the Iraqi Council of Representatives presented by the Sunni political forces.The Presidency of the Iraqi Council of Representatives decided to officially terminate the membership of Council Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, based on the decision of the Federal Supreme Court, as of the fourteenth of November 2023.On Tuesday, November 14, the Federal Supreme Court, “the highest judicial authority in Iraq,” announced the termination of the membership of the Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, against the backdrop of a lawsuit filed against him by Representative Laith Al-Dulaimi, in which he accused him of forging his (Al-Dulaimi’s) resignation from membership in the House of Representatives.
