Shafaq News/ Voice of America radio, in a reading of the results of the Iraqi provincial council elections, considered that the pro-Iranian parties were the ones that emerged victorious in the majority of council seats, after the balloting process in which 41% of voters participated.

A radio report translated by Shafaq News Agency explained that the vote, which took place on December 18, was the first of its kind in a decade, and came amid widespread political indifference in a country recovering from years of conflict and suffering from corruption.

The report noted that elections were held in 15 of Iraq's 18 governorates, while the three governorates in the Kurdistan Region are scheduled to hold separate elections next year, noting that the governorates manage health, transportation, and education budgets.

According to the final results numbers announced by the Election Commission yesterday evening, Thursday, the report said that in 9 governorates in central and southern Iraq, the biggest winners emerged either from the outgoing conservative parties, or the alliances formed by pro-Iranian parties that also dominate the House of Representatives.

The American report indicated that the voting process was a fundamental test for Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, who took power more than a year ago, with the support of parties loyal to Tehran, reminding that the general elections are scheduled for the year 2025.

According to the report, the results showed that 4 coalitions controlled the votes in the governorates of Baghdad, Dhi Qar, Maysan, Basra, Babil, and Wasit.

Among them was the "Nabni" coalition led by Hadi Al-Amiri, which she described as a senior leader in the Popular Mobilization Forces, which is currently integrated into the regular forces.

In addition, the performance of the State of Law coalition led by former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, and the National State Forces led by Ammar al-Hakim and former Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

In Baghdad Governorate, the report stated that the dominance was of the State of Law and “Nabni” coalitions, as each of them won 9 seats out of 52 seats, followed by the Progress Party, led by former Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, who also achieved a victory in Anbar Governorate.
