Undersecretary of the Ministry, Karim Suleiman, said that his ministry seeks to expand the export of most local products in the region, noting the provision of markets to encourage farmers to increase the cultivated areas and care for them, whether plants or animals, with the support of the region’s Prime Minister. He added that the Ministry is working to transfer existing experiences abroad, including the Dutch, to benefit from them in the advancement and development of the agricultural reality in the region, by using the land area to achieve greater production with the lowest percentage of water, noting that last season witnessed good rainfall, which was reflected positively on the reality. Agricultural crops, especially wheat, are abundant, which is used in many industries, according to the official Al-Sabah newspaper.

Suleiman pointed out that work is continuing to export agricultural and animal products to the central and southern governorates and then abroad, as many products such as potatoes, pomegranates, honey, apples, rashi and limited quantities of rice produced in the region have been exported to the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Qatar, Kuwait, in addition to Jordan and Europe.

He stressed that efforts were made during the past season to pay attention to the local product and reduce foreign imports, and to strive to provide all products in the four seasons by relying on modern agricultural technology in constructing plastic and glass houses, in addition to the Ministry’s plan to rely on building large refrigerators in which all can be stored. Materials, whether plant or animal, are available throughout the year.

Suleiman stated that the great and advanced steps that the region has taken in the field of poultry production by providing large fields and slaughterhouses that operate according to health conditions and delivering products to central and southern Iraq and some investors who have contracts with the holy religious shrines to supply them with quantities of chicken that is raised in the region, butchered, cut and sold. In addition to eggs, there is an idea to export them to Jordan.

He explained that Rasina companies have contracted with farmers to package their products in an elegant and exceptional manner, which motivates the consumer to purchase them, stressing that these products are subject to chemical and physical tests according to health certificates before they are exported outside the region.
