Deputy: Choosing the new Speaker of Parliament is linked to a decision from the Federal Court

Member of the House of Representatives, Salem Al-Anbuki, made holding a new session to choose the Speaker of the House of Representatives dependent on the Federal Court’s resolution of the lawsuit submitted regarding the legality of the previous session.
Al-Anbuki said in an interview with Al Mada, “The Presidency of Parliament has not yet set a date for a new session to choose the Speaker of the House of Representatives.”
He added, “The fate of the new session to choose the Speaker of the House of Representatives depends on the decision of the Federal Court regarding the legality of the previous session.”
The member of the House of Representatives indicated, “The nomination door will be opened again after the decision of the Federal Supreme Court,” adding, “If the legitimacy of the session is decided, the competition will be between Representative Shalan Al-Karim and Representative Salem Al-Issawi.”
On Saturday of last week, the House of Representatives held a session to elect the Speaker of Parliament, and Shaalan Al-Karim, Salem Al-Issawi, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, Amer Abdul-Jabbar and Talal Al-Zubaie ran for the position.
The final three were eliminated from the first round of voting, leaving the “Progress” Party’s candidate, Shaalan Al-Karim, and the “Sovereignty” Party’s candidate, Salem Al-Issawi, remaining. After the first round, forces in the “coordination framework” pushed to create a crisis within the parliament session by introducing a new paragraph aimed at limiting the powers of the Speaker of Parliament, which led to a quarrel between the representatives, after which it was decided to adjourn the session until further notice.
