    Baghdad today - Kirkuk
Today, Friday (February 2, 2024), the official of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Kirkuk, Muhammad Kamal, commented on circulating news regarding his party entering into an alliance with Arabs and Turkmen to form the local government in the governorate.
Kamal told "Baghdad Today", "What is currently taking place are merely discussions and visits at the level of political leaders and leaders of various parties, and they have not reached the level of agreement."
He added, "Talk about betrayal by the Kurdistan Democratic Party if it goes in alliance with the Turkmen and Arabs is shameful because others must review themselves. We have not betrayed the Kurds and the Kurdish cause at all," he said.
Kamal pointed out, "The solution in Kirkuk is through consensus between the various political forces, and no component can ever govern Kirkuk alone. The most important thing at the present time is to hold a provincial council session and name the new president of the council and his deputy."
Earlier, informed sources in Kirkuk revealed an agreement between the Arab blocs, the Kurdistan Democratic Party bloc, and the Turkmen Front to nominate the former representative of the Arab component, Khaled Al-Mufarji, as governor of Kirkuk, which the National Union rejected, describing it as “talk on social media.”
A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Idris Haj Adel, had told “Baghdad Today” earlier: “We aspire for all components to participate in the administration of Kirkuk Governorate because it is the only guarantor of Kirkuk’s stability, but everyone must realize that the next governor will be Kurdish and from the Patriotic Union according to the results.” The last elections."
The (Kirkuk, Our Strength and Our Will) coalition, which consists of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and some Kurdish forces allied with it, won the largest number of Kirkuk seats, as it obtained 5 out of 16 seats, and the Arab Alliance comes next with 3 seats, in addition to two seats going to each of the leadership, the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and the Turkmen. And one seat for the Arabism Alliance, according to the election results.
