    Baghdad Today - Kirkuk
Kirkuk Provincial Council member Raad Al-Saleh confirmed today, Friday (August 16, 2024), that Arabs and Turkmen have obtained rights and gains that they did not obtain before.
Al-Saleh said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The agreement of the Arab members with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan has achieved great gains for us, and important positions, at the level of department directors and district and sub-district management."
He added, "The Turkmen will obtain the position of governor within the three-way rotation of the position, and they also obtained very important positions, and thus the agreement has achieved great gains for us, and we reject the policy of treason and the systematic campaigns against us."
Al-Saleh pointed out that "Kirkuk will remain Iraqi, and the management of its security file is in the hands of the federal authority, and the word must be unified to work to serve the people of Kirkuk with their various nationalities."
The new Kirkuk governor, Ribwar Taha, officially assumed his position on Wednesday (August 14, 2024) after the issuance of the Republican Decree and his taking the legal oath at the Kirkuk Court of Appeal.
Baghdad Today correspondent reported that "the new governor, Ribwar Taha, officially assumed his duties today in the official presence and absence of the former governor, Rakan Al-Jubouri, who was the first to object to the provincial council session held in Baghdad to choose the new governor and the head of the provincial council."
Before assuming his official duties at the governorate building, Ribwar Taha took the constitutional oath yesterday morning, Wednesday, at the Kirkuk Court of Appeal.
On Tuesday (August 13, 2024), President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid approved the decree appointing Ribwar Taha as head of the local government in Kirkuk.
On the tenth of August, the governor of Kirkuk and the head of its provincial council were elected in Baghdad without the participation of members of the Democratic Party bloc and a number of Arab representatives. Ribwar Taha was appointed governor and Mohammed Hafez was appointed head of the provincial council.
Before the meeting held in the capital Baghdad, three blocs announced separately that they would boycott the meeting, declaring that the provincial council session that led to the selection of the head of the local government and the head of the Kirkuk provincial council was illegal, stressing that they were not invited to attend the session.
