    Baghdad today - Basra
Basra Governorate Council considered, today, Monday (February 12, 2024), that the work ahead of it is not easy and full of challenges and difficulties, stressing its intention to work hand in hand with the governorate administration to move forward with the work of the local government.
Deputy Chairman of the Council, Osama Al-Saad, told “Baghdad Today” that “the local government was formed consensually and all the blocs expressed their support for continuing to serve the governorate,” considering that “the governorate’s representatives will have a major role in facilitating the arrival of the governorate’s budgets, especially after the 2023-2024 budgets were passed.” - 2025, and therefore all of Basra’s entitlements cannot be delayed.”
He added, "Basra has diverse budgets for regional development and border crossings, and therefore there will be several doors for financial disbursement to facilitate the governorate's work without delaying projects."
Last Monday, the new Basra Governorate Council voted to choose Khalaf Al-Badran as President of the Council, who is from the “Nabni” coalition led by Hadi Al-Amiri, while Osama Al-Saad was elected from the “Tasmeem” bloc led by Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani, as Vice-President of the Council.
In the same session, the Council voted unanimously to choose Asaad Al-Eidani as Governor of Basra for a second term.
