Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Industry and Minerals announced, on Tuesday, that the international company “Shell” apologized for continuing with the “Nebras” petrochemical project, attributing this to changing its policy in investing in petrochemical industries.
The ministry said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, “The Dutch Shell Company expressed its apology for continuing discussions with the Ministry of Industry and Minerals and the Ministry of Oil as a major investor in the Nebras Petrochemical Project, while Shell confirmed its continued support of the project through its partnership with the Basra Gas Company and providing all the priorities that it provides.” Owned by the project.

The ministry added, "Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani directed the Ministries of Industry and Oil to study other options more responsive to the new reality of gas after signing the investment contract with the French company Total and re-studying the size of the project, its design capacity, and other technical details."
On Monday, 12/25/2023, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani directed the Minister of Oil, Industry and Minerals, and the Prime Minister’s Advisor, to hold an urgent meeting with the international company “Shell” to liquidate its belongings.
It is noteworthy that in February 2023, the Council of Ministers decided to resolve the most important dilemma that had been pending for years, which is gas pricing, which was approved in accordance with Council of Ministers Resolution 80 of 2023, as well as the transfer of ownership of the lands allocated for the project to the Ministry of Industry and Minerals. In order to resolve the conflicts, an international consulting body was contracted to manage the project, ensuring its implementation in accordance with the economic and technical vision.
